From The Desk Of:

Question: Where is your office located?
Answer: Our main training center is located in Kewanee, Illinois.

Question: Is training only offered at your facilities?
Answer: No, we have seminars around the country on a monthly basis for introductory programs. However we strongly encourage those who are serious about making money in this profession to attend our in house training sessions. In the Fall of 2007 our programs will be offered at select colleges around the country.

Question: What is the typical class size at your facility?
Answer: Average class sizes are up to 10 people. We prefer to keep class sizes small so that each student will receive the attention required to learn the industry.

Question: What is the difference between a freight broker & freight agent?
Answer: A freight broker assumes all legal and financial responsibilities for the movement of cargo. They have met the requirements under the
FMCSA Guidelines to legally operate as a property broker in the United States.

A freight agent serves as an independent contractor for a freight brokerage but serves in the same capacity. Typically freight agents starting out will receive a commission of 50% of the gross profit from every load. An agent who is established with a book of business can command as high as 80% of the gross profit from freight moved for the brokerage. The agent in return does not assume any responsibility for insurance, authority, claims or collections of freight bills.

Question: How much money can I make as a freight broker or agent?
Answer: Earnings are determined on your motivation to succeed, and also how you adapt to the industry. A full-time freight broker can easily make from $50,000 to well over six figures ($$$$$$). This is a recession proof business that provides unlimited income potential and a long range customer base for the right person.

Question: What is the advantage to becoming an agent versus a broker?
Answer: By becoming a freight agent for an established freight brokerage you will not be responsible for any of the following:

  • A broker authority, surety bond or insurance is not required as you are an independent contractor for the brokerage you sign on with.

  • You will not have to invest in expensive dispatch software and accounting programs.

  • You will be able to earn a customer base easier as , you are working under the name of a pre-established brokerage.

Question: What equipment will I need to get started?
Answer: To open a freight brokerage, you will need a computer with high speed internet, a fax machine, a telephone with unlimited long distance. This business can be operated out of your own home office. There are several tax advantages to starting a freight brokerage or agency.

Question: How do I find shippers and carriers?
Answer: There are several different areas in which to find shippers. A number of freight brokers purchase industry databases and member information of different industry organizations. You can also enter into Co-Broker agreements with other freight brokerages.

The primary job function you will perform is to contact companies who ship products and establish new accounts to use your services. You will also contact carriers in which to move your freight through using internet load boards, carrier databases and industry associations that you have acquired through networking.

Question: How do I find a broker to work for if I wish to become an agent after training?
Answer: We are an established training program that has a solid reputation in this industry. We have an existing relationship with quality freight brokerages that are willing to invest the time to give you a chance. We are the only freight broker training program in the country that can GUARANTEE employment with a freight brokerage upon course completion.

Question: Are you affiliated with other training programs that I have found on the internet?
Answer: Absolutely Not! All of our training programs and materials were created by our company and are copyrighted by Transportation Training Systems. It has been our experience to find that several of the other "So-Called" freight broker training programs merely furnish basic industry information that is widely available for free on the internet. We pride ourselves that to not fall into the same category of other "inferior" training programs

Our instructors will actually teach you how to move freight, quote lanes, deal with shippers and resolve claims! Other programs will not, they simply give you unrealistic scenarios and show you how to "Post-A-Load" on Internet Truckstop or DAT ! run actual miles on PC miler software or discuss ways to book cheap freight.

Unlike other training programs that leave you unprepared for the job, you will know how to move freight upon completion of our in house training programs. Do not be fooled, investigate who you are dealing with before investing in any other program!

Question: Can I really become a freight broker in 4 days of training?
Answer: Yes you can! Once you are trained simply submit the appropriate paperwork and you will be a licensed freight broker in the United States. It is strongly suggested however that you complete an internship as an agent with one of the brokers we have an association with. You want to continue your education in this industry with seasoned professionals.
